Title / HAIRY WORDS ON THEIR MINDS.
126 pages / full color
Soft cover / image wrap
Size / 11cm x 15cm

A2 Poster included inside the cover.

This book started on a day with a man's engraved head sitting in front of me on the bus. I literally looked at his finely decorated shaved head for at least 10 minutes straight. Made me wonder where did this come from? and if i ever had the urge to engrave my head with hair? or non hair for that matter. What would I get? My name? dog's name? favorite food? favorite color? favorite basketball team? favorite city? favorite person?

This little book is a collection of found and collected images of people's engraved head pieces. It contains 126 pages filled with blue and white hairy images and words they have engraved in their hair.

Each colored text is a story line of one person. The book has 7 age categories whereby each person had to fill in what has or will happen in their life. For instance I'm now 24 and everything that I'll fill in in the book will be ficticious since I haven't experienced those ages. But for someone who's 93 he/she will be able to fill in their entire life and it will be real history. In this little book there's no division between what is real and what is fictive. I like this gray area.</description>

"Scavenging is both a carnivorous and herbivorous feeding behavior in which individual scavengers search out dead animals (corpses or carrion) and dead plant biomass on which to feed." -Almighty Wikipedia

DATA SCAVENGING arose from a fascination of an intersection of Native American tribes and early photo portraiture. The images were found in an online database of portraits taken in the 19TK's; each image has been color-tinted according to tribe (from Apache to Winnebago) and assigned a circle or rectangle for gender.

The act of scavenging is to simultaneously save and destroy, to glean something that has been over-looked, left-behind. The very fact that these photographs were taken point to the demise of their subjects; the colonizers who carried the technology to archive these tribes also hastened their disintegration.

By tinting and categorizing the images, their content has been further scavenged-- saved from the informational abyss of the internet, but also subtly defiled.

The title is making a mock out all the gentrification fears we experienced on our big house hunt.

Koen’s houses are hand drawn and based on the meaning of the words in the title. Petra’s houses are made only using the computer, if you tilt your head to the side you’re able to read the cubed computerized houses, which are based on a set of rules and are the words in the title written out.

This book is our second edition collaborating together.
Have a look at "Dear York, this bug in my bed is new work."

Soon to be printed and available for purchase!

I was consumed by the colors I came across in these enormous spaces. Some of them were located underground which made the experience quite surreal. The workers wore hygienic suits with spontaneous pastel colored details here and there, the workers blended easily into these factories as if the color scheme wasn’t complete with out there being humanly colors involved. Such photogenic spaces and coordinated images they were with out even knowing this and with no artistic function whatsoever, untill someone picks up a camera.
